Designated Safeguarding Leads Structure and Reporting Process
We would like to introduce ourselves as Severndale Academy’s Co-Lead DSLs (Designated Safeguarding Leads).
The following information detail our process for reporting a safeguarding concern and the structure of our wider Designated Safeguarding Lead team who support the reporting process.
You will see that each department has a Designated Safeguarding Lead. If you have any queries or concerns around safeguarding or would like advice, please contact your child’s or young person’s departmental DSL in the first instance.

Designated Safeguarding Leads Structure and Reporting Process
Member of staff/ visitor/ child or young person reports their concern to a DSL
The DSL will support the person to address the concern
- If it is a new concern, the staff member will record onto CPOMS.
- If it is part of an on-going concern, the DSL will add a note on to the pupil chronology with the member of staff.
Staff: The member of staff will follow the advice of the DSL to ensure the right actions are taken.
The DSL may refer the concern to parent carer/Early Help/Social Worker/FPOC.
The staff member will follow up with the DSL for feedback.
Visitor/ child/ YP/ vulnerable adult: The DSL will use the schools’ safeguarding system, CPOMS, to either add the new concern, or put a note onto the child’s chronology to add and assess against the wider picture.
The DSL will record the concern directly onto CPOMS with the visitor/ child or young person present (where possible/ appropriate). The DSL will use the words and phrasing that the reporter uses.
The DSL may refer the concern to parent carer/Early Help/Social Worker/FPOC.
The DSL will agree an appropriate time/ date to follow up with the reporter.
- If the allocated department based deputy DSL is unavailable, please report the concern to any DSL for support as soon as possible. If DSLs are not available/ school is closed/ concern is urgent and in need of immediate support please report the concern to FPOC (0345 6789021)/ NSPCC (0808 800 5000)/ police (101/ 999).
- Any concerns about an adult in a position of trust (a member of staff), or unresolved concerns, must be taken to the Principal (via a DSL if the Principal is unavailable).
